In less than a year, Rappahannock Cellars has created a tradition of producing award-winning wines. Crowning its efforts are three gold medals for its 2000 Cabernet Franc, 2001 Seyval Blanc, and 2001 Chardonnay, from the 2002 Virginia Governor’s Cup Wine Competition.

Two silver and three bronze medals were also won in other wine categories; in fact, every wine made by Rappahannock Cellars since the vineyard’s creation has earned a medal in at least one competition.

Chris Pearmund, winemaker for Rappahannock, reported, “Many considered the 2001 harvest among the finest in Virginia’s history. Fruit quality was excellent and our expectations were high. We took full advantage of this year’s crop — and doubled our production to 3500 .cases, while maintaining consistent medal winning qualify”
