Muskrat Haven Farm
Have to have some raspberries or blackberries? Try Muskrat Haven. Etta and Manfred Call will supply the containers, but you get to do the picking. The blueberries are almost picked out, but the raspberries are just starting and blackberries will probably be ripe in a week.
Sweet com will perhaps be ready by the end of July.
The farm stand on US 211 in Amissville is open seven days a week from 9 until 6 p.m., 937-5191.
Williams Orchard
Fresh-picked vegetables available now at Williams Orchard are green beans, both yellow and green squash, cucumbers, cabbage and beets. Mary Williams encourages a call in advance to place an order and then coming by later to pick up the produce. It’s better for the vegetables, the folks doing the picking and the eating later on.
Most of the Williams apples and peaches come later in the season. The only apple ripening before August at the Williams Orchard is the early Rambo which is likely to be ready by late July. Mrs. Williams thought there might be a yellow freestone peach ready by the end of July.
So far it’s been a “very nice season” though Mrs. Williams is crossing her fingers for rain. There’s been enough for the fruit and vegetables, but some good soaking rains are needed for the water table.
