gardens at Barnsley House, Gloucestershire. Although she took up gardening later in life, one can easily see that this woman was born to garden. I love her insights about design. Although this book is out of print, it is still quite easily found through used book vendors.

• With this last book. I'm going to leave you in Holland, with the Dutch master plantsman, Piet Oudolf. Mr.Oudolf is a nursery owner, plant breeder and landscaper with a sensitivity to plants quite rare amongst professionals in his field. Designing with Plants, written in collaboration with Noel Kingsbury, outlines Oudolf’s approach to planting with an eye to movement, mood, form, foliage, texture, dead-standing interest and cultivar selection to create natural looking landscapes w’ith a depth of emotional and visual impact. Impressive.
