Soccer League registration set

The Rappahannock Youth Soccer League fall registration is now in progress. Players from U-6 through U-18 may participate. U-6 players must be 5 years old by Sept. 8. Applications may be picked up at the kiosk in Washington and the Public Library now through Aug. 3. Fees are $35 for the first player and $20 for each additional family member. Some scholarships are available.

New players must have a copy of their birth certificate. Please call Laura Dodd at 547-2968 or e-mail at laurajane _dodd@yahoo.com with questions. Again, last day to register will be Aug. 3, 2002. Register your youth soon!

Brandy Station announces carnival

Brandy Station Volunteer firemen will sponsor their annual carnival July 31 through Aug. 3 at Fleetwood Heights Road in Brandy Station. The carnival opens each evening at 7. The parade will be held Aug. 1 beginning at 6:30 p.m. A matinee will be held on Saturday from 1 to 5 p.m. with a special ride price.

July 13-14, Field Botany for the Plant Enthusiast. The group will dissect flowers, collect and \ press plant specimens and come to understand the basic ' characteristics of ten major medicinal plant families. Aug. 3, “Wonders of the Wetland* Dreamtime Garden ! Tour from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. See the spectacular show of ; natives planted around two ponds including brilliant lobelias, sultry swamp milkweeds, vivid vervains and more. Fee is $40, brown bag lunch.

In-orchard meeting set

A in-orchard meeting will be held at Nauman's Orchard in Flint Hill on Wednesday, July 24. For additional information call the Rappahannock Extension Office at 675-3619.

Clinic will be open July 10 :

The Rappahannock Free Clinic, a local operation of the ' Fauquier Free Clinic Inc., is currently open on the first, third and fifth Wednesdays of each month. The clinic will be open ; Wednesday, July 10 and not again until July 17. Normally the clinic would have observed hours on July 3, however, due to the holiday, it has moved forward one week. Patient registra- . tion is from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Rappahannock Public ; Health Department Building. For information call 347-0394

Ragged Mountain activities set

The following activities are scheduled through Ragged Mountain Resource Center. For more information call I Director Hunt Harris at 987-3366.

“Second Saturday” hikes to trails in the Shenandoah ; National Park along upper Rappahannock River tributaries on Saturday, July 13, and Saturday, Aug. 10. Those attending '• should meet between 8 and’ 8:30 a.m. at Mountainside Market on US 211 west of Sperryville and caravan from there to trailheads. Bring nourishment for self, especially water, and layered clothing according to the weather of the day (extra socks recommended). Return is usually mid-afternoon. July 13: Nicholson Hollow-Hughes River and Aug. 10: White Oak Canyon-Robinson River.
