On June 25 David H. Massie of Amissville and Jessica Lee Nawrocki of Washington were each awarded a Presidential Freedom Scholarship during the Salem Ruritan Club and Foundation’s annual family night ceremony in Culpeper.
The Presidential Freedom Scholarship recognizes two students from each high school in the country who have demonstrated extraordinary community Service. That service is rewarded with a $1,000 scholarship.
As part of attaining the rank of Eagle Scout, David Massie built an outdoor classroom at the Rappahannock Elementary School. He has also enjoyed tutoring students in the elementary school as well as serving as a mentor. Mr. Massie is an All Star 4-Her and has been both a day and overnight counselor at 4-H camp. Other accomplishments and honors include: National Honor Society, Senior class president, and both Bronze and Silver Congressional Medals. ! Jessica Nawrocki has Spent most of her life doing Volunteer work. As part of her church work she went on a mission trip within Virginia and helped repair Six houses. She has also been a camp counselor and a D.A.R.E.volunteer. Ms. Nawrocki has served as a ’ Starfish mentor, working With children in the lower grades. She is also a member pf the Fellowship of
