George Mortimer Wince, 79, of Delaplane died Sunday, June 30 at Newton D. Baker VA Center in Martinsburg, W.Va.
Funeral services were conducted on Wednesday, July 3 at Royston Funeral Home in Marshall by Pastor William Clites. Burial was in the Wince family plot in Orlean.
Mr. Wince was bom July 4, 1922 in Rappahannock County, son of the late Daniel Robert and Lucy Ada Rutherford Wince. He was a farmer and an Army veteran of World War II.
Surviving are two sisters, Mattie Rutherford of Delaplane and Lucy Surface of Broad Run and three brothers, Daniel Wince of Roanoke, Warren Wince of Pineypoint, Md. and Robert Wince of Flint Hill.

Patsy Smoot Carpenter, 86, of Boyce died Saturday, June 29 at her residence.
Funeral services were conducted on Wednesday, July 3 at Enders & Shirley Funeral Home in Berryville by the Rev. Clinton Lawyer. Burial was in Green Hill Cemetery in Berryville.
Mrs. Carpenter was bom Aug. 10, 1915 in Rappahannock County, daughter of the late James Henry and Carrie Rutherford Smoot. She was a domestic worker and member of Boyce Baptist Church. She was the wife of the late Charles Luther Carpenter Jr.
Surviving are a son, Peter Paul Riley of Boyce; one daughter, Irene R. Daily of Winchester; a sister, Carolyn Evins of Milan, 111.; one brother, Winfield Smoot of Stephens City; seven grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
