There are some garden books which stand alone in merit just for visual information of their color photographs.
• One all-time favorite of mine is Tasha Tudor’s Garden/ text by Tovah Martin. The well-known and refreshingly eccentric children’s book illustrator is also an expert gardener. Miss Tudor gardens in mountainous Vermont, raises goats, chickens, weaves fabric for the 18th century style clothing she favors and stirs up a mean cake in her handhewn copy of a 1740 farmhouse. She’s about 88 years old, to boot.
Despite the photos of Tasha wielding a scythe and trotting on snowshoes in foot — deep snow, don’t let this Yankee woman frighten you! Her gardens are romantic, old-fashioned affairs replete with easyto-care- for plants in wild and free profusion. Charming,.
