system, and not just because we live here. Did you know that Earth is only planet in the solar system that can have total eclipses of the Sun?

Mars is known as the Red Planet. Mars is much smaller than Earth, but recent research shows that it once had flowing rivers. Mars also has a canyon that stretches over 2000 miles.

The ruler of the night skies, Jupiter is by far the largest planet in our solar system. Jupiter is so large that over 1300 Earths would fit inside it!

The Ringed Planet, Saturn is probably the most visually stunning planet of all. Saturn’s giant rings are actually made of thousands of small particles of dust and ice.

Uranus has rings like Saturn, but they are very faint. The planet is also the only one in our solar system that lies on its side instead of standing straight up.

Neptune looks like a big blue-green ball in the sky. Neptune has winds in its atmosphere which blow at over 2000 kilometers per hour! This planet has large, dark circles on its surface which astronomers believe to be storms.

Pluto is the farthest known planet from the Sun. It has a very unusual orbit. Once every 248 Earth years, Pluto swings inside the orbit of Neptune. It stays there for twenty years. During those twenty years, Pluto is closer to the Sun than Neptune.
