The Tbwn of Washington has much on its plate right now, with the first and foremost issue being the potential growth of the historic town.

The remainder of the town’s issues, such as the development of a wastewater treatment facility, hinges on this growth factor.

In light of this, the town’s officials have hired consultants to assist them, making certain that all factors are considered. Last week members of the Washington Tbwn Council and Washington Town Planning Commission joined together in a public meeting with Milt Herd of Herd Planning & Design, Ltd from Leesburg, Va. and Vlad Gavrilovic of Paradigm Design from Res ton, Va., to discuss possible scenarios of growth under the current Tbwn of Washington Comprehensive Plan.

“It is always good for areas to find out what the current potential is when they are updating their plans,” Hard Said.

In the current plan, property with rural resident zoning must conform to no less than one and one-half acres, with the remaining property being broken into one-half acre parcels.

Construction throughout the town has, for the most part, been confined to the streets within the original grid of the town and the roadways leading out of Washington.

There are less than 100 homes within the town’s limits.

However, Herd and Gavrilovic proposed several potential scenarios that could occur with the current zoning regulations, with increased housing varying from an additional 87 (on the high side) to a modest 27 new units.
