the cashiers counter is one of Rappahannock County’s most popular eating establishments, Thornton River Grille.
“It all began with a simple menu,” laughed Thompson, “but one thing led to another and now it is a wonderful casual fine dining restaurant.”
Wien Thornton River Grille first opened, chef Tbm Nash brought eclectic cuisine to the small town.
However, after five years, Nash is moving on to a new restaurant in The Plains, opening the door for a new chef, Randall Cooper at Thornton River.
Cooper has gained experience as a chef with the Grille at Prince Michel Vineyard in Leon, Va. “The future at Thornton River Grille is bright,” Thompson said, adding that he sought someone who would meet or exceed the standards that have been set by Nash.
Upon Nash’s leaving, Thompson said, “we wish him (Nash) luck. He has helped us build this business and we have nothing but gratitude toward him. We both agreed that it was time for us to move in different directions.”
