Traffic crashes are the number
one killer of teenagers. In fact,
on average, one teenager dies each hour, each weekend in the United States. Teenagers 16 to 19 are far more likely to be killed in a car crash than any other age group. This is due to two factors-driver inexperience and lack of maturity behind the wheel. However, there is something parents can do. Research shows that when parents take an active role in their teens’ driving education and set certain driving guidelines, their teens’ chances of being in a crash can be reduced by up to one-third. That’s why DaimlerChrysler brought together top safety experts and created Road Ready Teens, a teen driving safety program to help parents and teens.
Road Ready Teens is a researchdriven, home-based program for parents and teens that offers tips and innovative tools designed to help teens gain the necessary driving experience and maturity behind the wheel before tackling high-risk driving situations. The recommendations that underpin the program are embodied in Graduated Driver Licensing (GDL) laws in most states.
