Wakefield Country Day School (WCDS), a college preparatory day school known for its rigorous academic curriculum, is currently accepting applications from students in eighth through twelfth grade who wish to attend the school and believe they meet the criteria to be considered for the Leonard M. Cowherd Memorial Scholarship. The scholarship was established in the fall of 2004 to honor Army Second Lieutenant Leonard M. Cowherd, III, a WCDS graduate who died May 16, 2004, in Iraq while in the service of his country.
The scholarship covers tuition costs, excluding books and fees for the entire academic year, and is renewable, subject to the student’s continued ability to meet the scholarship criteria. Students entering eighth through twelfth grade may apply. As a recipient of this award, a student must maintain a second honors average (minimum of an 8.0 on a 10-point scale) throughout the academic year, and perform a minimum of
