without stories and Rev. Bailey recounted the plight of one stray dog who eventually was matched with a home but in a unique way. “He would come around and he was very friendly,” remembered Bailey. One of the other workers, Pat Payne, who is Clerk of the *Court in Culpeper County, was not only on this mission but a mission of sorts for her sister who had lost three dogs in a year. “She had told Pat to find a dog that needed to be rescued and bring it to her.” Well, “Bo” has a new home now in Virginia. “Making those connections from out of all that chaos, it was the Holy Spirit at work,” smiled Bailey.

A few months later, in April, St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Washington organized a “spring break work trip” for 16 students at Christendom College in Front Royal. “St. Peter’s rented three vans to carry the students down to the Waveland, Mississippi area,” said parishioner Jim Gannon, “where they worked for a week on the restoration of St. Ann’s church and grounds.” St. Peter’s “adopted” the Mississippi Catholic congregation as its sister parish and has sent down several work groups to help restore the church, rectory and other buildings that were damaged by Hurricane Katrina’s tidal surge.
