It has been reported several times, without dispute, that in order to raise the same amount of taxes as the previous year, the new rate would be $.50 per $100 of assessed real estate value. Now, hold onto your hats and scarves, the new, proposed rate of $.62 per $100 of assessed value, without the “extra” two cents tax, equates to a 24 percent increase!
