well as a flower wreath to commemorate her graduation. Mullan lit a candle from the center candle to symbolize Dawson’s progression into high school. Eighth grade teacher Leta Brown then spoke of Ashley’s hard work, tenacity and generous spirit.
Twelfth graders Vanessa Dunn and Caspar Velasco then entered the spiral to receive their diplomas from Mullan as their parents and siblings watched proudly from the front row. Candles were again lit from the center candle symbolizing each student’s progression, and high school student Kerry Keihn then performed a beautiful solo violin serenade for Dunn and Velasco. Music teacher Dontez Harris gave a moving speech to Dunn and Velasco of their tenure at Hearthstone and the journey they were now beginning, advising them to always believe in themselves and their potential. He also noted their musical talents, creativity and community spirit.
High school teacher Jesse Reynolds then spoke to Dunn and Velasco each in turn. Of Velasco, he noted his talents, how much he had changed and grown since entering Hearthstone three years ago, and how much he brought to each class.
