Oh, and in case there are any readers out there who truly believe that the speaker intended to say that our teachers collect a big fat check for little or no effort, I invite you to follow me around for a day when school starts back up in August so that you can see for yourself how things are. Get a good night’s sleep beforehand though, because my day (along with most of the teachers I work with) starts at 7:30 a.m. or earlier and goes until somewhere between 4:30 and 9:00 p.m., not including the phone calls, emails, grading and planning that I do at home on the evenings and on weekends. Of course, I do get about a 15 minute break for lunch. And, along with most of my peers, I love my job.
