Jay Johnson, retired owner of Meridian Aircraft, made the announcement at an FT Baptist Church function: Needed: An 11-13 year old kid who was willing to build and drive a soap box racing car for a willing sponsor.
“My (grandma was there and jumped at the chance,” smiled Zach Armor, “she said, Thats my Zachie!”
Eleven-year old Zach Armor, attends Rappahannock County Elementary School and is the only soap box derby driver from Rappahannock County participating in the Annual Soap Box Derby in Culpeper this coming Saturday, June 24.
Although Armor spends much of his time playing golf and fishing Hazel Creek, he was not about to turn down the opportunity to compete. “I never raced before,” he said, “but it sounded like a lot of fiin.”
Armor will drive Car #155 in the stock division of the race.
