tion and valor. Leonard was a first honors student who, among other things, played lacrosse, soccer, cross-country, and basketball, appeared in the annual school plays, was Vice President of the Student Government in his senior year, Class Salutatorian, and a member of the Junior Classical League.
The intent of this scholarship is to identify individuals who exemplify the character traits exhibited by Leonard Cowherd and also to help others learn about him and honor his memory.
According to Kathleen Grove, Wakefield Country Day School’s Head of School, selection will be based upon an essay written and submitted by the applicants on how they see themselves in relation to the mission of the school - which includes character development, courtesy and a strong sense of honor - and to Cowherd himself.
