Mulches are important

during hot summer

months. Organic mulches are very effective in conserving soil moisture and helping to protect fine roots of landscape plants during the hot summer months. A two-to-four inch layer of wood chips, ground bark or similar organic material is sufficient to maintain soil and plant health. For optimum benefit, mulch should be placed beneath the entire canopy of the plant but do not pile mulch against the stem tissues of the plant in order to avoid potential disease and other plant health problems.
