Trinity’s quartet
Four members of Trinity Episcopal Church in Washington visited Bay St. Louis and Waveland during May. Trinity established a partnership with Christ Church, Bay St. Louis and Kit Johnston, Harold Beebout, Judy Reidinger and Sharon Kilpatrick ventured down in Harold’s truck with lots of power tools on board. They stayed in a FEMA trailer of one of the church members since Christ Episcopal Church had been completely washed away during the storm. See related article by Kit Johnston.
Rev. Bailey pointed out that many of the households they encountered were slowly getting money from FEMA and insurance companies but often it was only enough to buy materials and not labor. “The cost of labor is on the decline but still outrageous by our standards,” said Bailey who added that many opportunities still exist for volunteers to come down and help and it will be that way for a long time to come.
“They were most gracious for our help. They appreciated what the government had done for them but they said without the churches and other volunteers coming they don’t know how they would make it,” remarked Mustoe. “They told us to tell Virginia...not to forget them.”
