They were part of a 14 person disaster recovery team from eight different churches who went to Slidell, Louisiana in mid-February. Under the umbrella of the Shiloh Baptist Association they traveled in two vans and a pick-up truck which pulled their impact trailer. Approved by Disaster Relief, it carried carpentry and construction tools. Half of the group was retired and many, like Ellen Mustoe, had never done any work like this before.
“When I decided to go, several of my friends had said to me, “God does not always call the equipped, but He does equip the called.”
Assigned to work on two houses, Mustoe found herself with a working crew of six and the task of putting up drywall - “which I knew nothing about,” exclaimed Mustoe. But she quickly learned and after that “mudding” and then “taping seams.”
