Community-based policing
Williams believes that the RCSO must maintain a close relationship with the community. “The citizens of the county are stakeholders in the sheriff’s office,” he said. “The Sheriff’s office has to continue to work with the community and build trust between us.”
Williams said that the Sheriff’s Office should continue to look for ways to serve the community. “Law enforcement used to be us tracking down bad guys and locking people up,” he said. “Now we should be able to solve community problems and offer counseling for those who need an outlet.”
With an increasing elderly population in Rappahannock County, Williams said that he would like to work closer with the elderly. Williams spoke about increasing training for members of the RCSO to increase their ability to understand and work with elderly people. “We need to be able to provide the elderly some support in order to ensure their safety,” he said.
