VDOT updates
The Virginia Department of Transportation has scheduled a closure of the Rudasill Mill Road (Route: 62D bridge that crosses the Thornton River between Woodville and Five Forks. Beginning March 5, the span is scheduled to be closed for 60 days while crews repair the structure, VDOT’s David Cubbage told the Rappahannock County Board of Supervisors On Monday.
Cubbage also reported that it might take 60 to 90 days before engineering crews can finish analyzing the integrity of the Rediviva Lane bridge over the Covington River. The 78year-old bridge was closed in December, causing neighborhood residents to protest at the supervisors’ January meeting.
Finally, Cubbage said VDOT’s Six-Year Plan for county roads will be ready for the board’s consideration in March. Power line corridor
County Administrator John McCarthy told the board that Rappahannock may be on the route of an alternative electric transmission corridor proposed by Dominion Virginia Power.
The power company issued a series of maps that offer alternatives to building a new corridor along Interstate 66. One of the maps shows lines being upgraded along existing corridors.
McCarthy said the corridor in the map is supposedly in Fauquier County, but he fears that it is actually the corridor that runs along the eastern por
