Montpelier
. The final stop on the Piedmont presidential tour is James Madison’s Montpelier, located four miles west of Orange on Highway 20.
The fourth president was born in 1751 in Port Conway, located on the Rappahannock River in King George County, and moved to Montpelier while he was still a child. Madison grew up at Montpelier, lived there most of his life and died there in 1836.
