Most people that mart

Presidents Day on

their calendars probably do so because they have the day off from wort or there’s a blow-out sale at some department store.

But the holiday — which fells on Feb. 19 this year — was intended to honor past presidents of the United States, and there’s no better place to get acquainted with those founding fathers than Virginia.

It is well known among Virginians that eight of the nation’s 43 presidents were born in the commonwealth. And four of those men - Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, James Monroe and Zachary Taylor — have ties to the Piedmont at sites that. make for an easy day trip from Rappahannock County.
