Wakefield awards

‘Athlete of the Month*

The Wakefield Country Day School Athletes for November / December are Chantel Paul and Andrew Smith.

Ms. Paul, a senior guard, gained momentum as the season unfolded, building up to some big numbers prior to Christmas. Averaging 11.2 points per game, Paul scored 17 points against Cape Henry Collegiate in the Life & Breath Foundation Tournament at Wakefield in the Plains and then responded with a pair of 28-point outings in contests against Fresta Valley and Mt. Carmel.

Mr. Smith, a freshman forward, jumped into varsity competition with a bang, posting double-digit scoring in three of his first four contests. Smith’s presence was especially felt when he poured in 22 points in the second half of a 59-35 road win over Massanutten Military Academy, a match that also earned him a new individual record of 27 points. Smith made 13 three-pointers in a three-game stretch, during which the Owls won four consecutive games, lifting their record to 6-3.
