nu T***. Hopewell Baptist Church in SperryviUe has a long tastory going back to the late 1800s.
It was organized in 1873 by twelve Christians who 'were members of the SperryviUe Baptist Church, known today as we Reynolds Memorial Baptist Church.
Approximately three-quarters of an acre of land on the present Route 600, leading from the Sperryville-Thomton Gap Turnpike to the Thdmton Gap Baptist Church was given to them by John B. Miller, and it was here that their first church was erected. A second church was under construction the first one partially burned. It was torn down, and salvageable materials were incorporated in the new building. A deed for the land was finally recorded with Bertha Miller and her husband, J. Hill (TBannon as grantors, and the trustees Daniel Aylor and Robert Beckwith as grantees. Rev. John Gaines was the first pastor. Under the leadership of Rev. Walsh Blair, the second pastor, the church was sealed inside.
In 1885, Rev. R. H. Carey, the third pastor was called. During his leadership weather board was put on the church and a rostrum was built. This church was originally contained in the Northern Virginia
