The Rappahannock County Planning Commission took a second look last week at a zoning amendment to allow auto sales along U.S. 211 west of Sperryville.
The measure will allow the activity in the Highway Commercial Zone upon approval of a special-use permit.
In May, Willie and Cathem Smith had applied for an' amendment to make auto sales a by-right use in the zone. The planning commission recommended that application for approval by a vote of 6 to 1.
The Smiths own property that formerly housed Cooter’s Place. They plan to sell vintage cars from the 1950s to 1970s as well as other types of autos.
The matter was scheduled to move on to the County Board of Supervisors’ meeting on June 4, but was derailed after a community meeting on May 29 at the Sperryville Fire Hall.
