Since Chapman won the Master’s title in 2005, the Super Stock crown this year, and is too old to race the Stock Division, the two-time champion will be forced to retire at the ripe ol’ age of 14.
“It feels great to be the first two win the Soap Box Derby of Culpeper twice,” Chapman said. “But I’m also a little bummed that I can’t race in the local derby anymore. I’ll definitely miss it, but I’ll continue to help out.”
Chapman was also saddened because he beat a friend that he’s raced against for the last half-decade in the finals of the Super Stock division.
Carol Anne Brown - racing in her final derby because she turns 18 before the 2008 Soap Box Derby of Culpeper - placed second in the Soap Box Derby of Culpeper for the third time in five years.
“I gave it my best shot,” Brown said. “It’s a little disappointing to come this close again, but overall I am happy with how I ran.”
Afterwards, Chapman expressed his sorrow for Carol Anne.
