Monument restoration

More than three months after the Confederate Monument in front of the County Treasurer's Office was scheduled to be restored, the company hired to do the work Has not yet started on it.

Last year, the Board of Supervisors appropriated $36,000 for the monument restoration and hired Conservation Solutions Inc. to perform the work.

McCarthy said the money set aside for the project is still available, but will need to be reauthorized by the board for the fiscal 2008 budget. That action will be decided at the supervisors’ August meeting.

Fauquier fire grant

The supervisors supported a resolution for a Fhuquier County grant proposal that would fund new fire training buildings

The board’s action does not require any funding.

Rappahannock’s backing for the proposal qualifies it as a regional project and will help Fauquier’s chances of receiving the grant, McCarthy said. Volunteer fire squads from Rappahannock will have access to the training buildings.

Fauquier may receive up to $400,000 for the construction of the buildings and up to $30,000 for design and site costs from the Virginia Department of Fire Programs.
