Smith edged out Sean Brown by a mire tenth-of-a-second to capture the Stock Division crown and earn his first trip to Akron for the 70th running of the All-American Soap Box Derby.

In all, he won six races and beat 58 stock drivers en route to the championship.

“It’s pretty cool to be the winner,” Smith said. “I actually thought I had lost at first, but then when they called my name I couldn’t believe it. I was so happy.”

In the consolation finals, Bret Shurina defeated Zachary Chapman to take third place.

While the top four took home trophies, Brown went home with the big one and plans to add another.
