The supervisors’ approval came on the heels of nearly two years of Angler effort to bring to fruition a housing plan with an affordable component that would satisfy requirements of Fauquier’s governing officials.

The original rezoning for the project was approved in October 2005. Planning Commission members this past April, however, continued to express dissatisfaction with the workforce housing component — some expressed doubts about whether the units would be built — and with the original proffer package, considered low by county standards.

Since then, applicants and county staff fine-tuned the language in the plan and included backup provisions for workforce housing that could not be filled by qualified applicants.
