Earns high marks for

‘general excellence’

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The Fauquier Times-Democrat earned prizes in writing and photography categories for the eighth year running at the American Horse Publications awards held over the weekend in New Mexico. Several other local horse publications were also honored at the annual event, which attracted more than 200 of the nation’s top equestrian journalists representing nearly 50 weekly, monthly and bi-monthly horse publications ranging from the Times-Democrat’s weekly Horse and Field Sports pages to the thick color glossy monthly American Quarter Horse Journal and weekly full-color Blood-Horse.

A photo of last summer’s annual pony swim at Merry Oak Farm in The Plains took runner-up, with judges commenting that the “excellent image is warm and “flowing.’ Focus ... composition ... balance. Overall well done.”

First place in the category went to photographer Sara Leiser of the Middleburg-based Chronicle of the Horse, for a photo of dressage rider Steffan
