BRAM STEVENS
Bram Stevens has seen a little bit of everything. As a charge nurse and clinical educator for the Emergency Department at Fauquier Hospital, he's exposed to a variety of challenges every day. *1 love working in the ER because it gives me the chance to see the whole continuum of care— from childbirth all the way to geriatrics," he says, "and I love helping the patients and their families. I always give 100 percent to help ease the tension and make the emergency situations better." Bram has been with Fauquier Hospital for 23 years and he considers the hospital a part of his family. 'I grew up here as a nurse," he explains, 'and the people I work with are wonderful We support each other, and by the end of each day, I go home feeling like I've done a great^ob." Bram's colleagues recently awarded him the coveted Ruth Krusie award for his many years of dedication and compassion. But this honor means much more than a little recognition for Bram: he actually knew Ruth Krusie personally and had the privilege of working with her during the early years of his career. 'Ruth embodied nursing and 1 have a lot of respect for her," Bram says. 'I got to know her when she worked in the ER and when I drove her to and from work during snow storms. I also cared for her in the hospital after she became ill She was kind, caring, and compassionate, and always greeted me with a 'Good morning, young man.' She was remarkable, and I'm truly gratefol to receive her award."
