Tn last week’s newspaper, the school board JLdiscussed raising school breakfast and lunch prices and quoted Dr. Chappell saying that the school lunch program is not self-sustaining
Before we raise the price, maybe we should look at what is being served and how it is being served to the students.
The french fries according to many students, two of whom live with me, are cold and frozen most of the time. They are no longer cooked in a deep fryer, they are baked or put into a warmer to get warm.
Hot dogs are served on a whole wheat bun instead of a regular hot dog bun. How many elementary school children like whole wheat bread? How many adults do? Especially with a hot dog on it.
The bread sticks are hard, the students can’t remember the last time they had the homemade vegetable soup that they used to have. They also used to have homemade mac & cheese and chicken casserole too.
The High School does not have a salad bar and most of their food is pre-packaged. They offer hamburgers and pizza at least
