July 4: “Patriotic Costume Parade”

The 4th of July festivities in Sperryville will include a “Patriotic Costume Parade” at 5 p. m., organized by the Rappahannock County Democratic Committee. Parade participants of all ages are welcome. “Come strut your patriotic reds, whites and blues in this fun foot parade (no vehicles permitted). Line up for the parade will begin at 4:30 p.m. on the grounds of the Thornton Hills Hounds Race Course. For information on the parade, call Jeanne Dixon at 675-1942.

cool In the dunk tank!

Rappahannock County School Band Boosters will be at the July 4 celebration in Sperryville and will be hosting a dunk tank featuring a wide variety of local celebrities. If you are a local celebrity and wish to participate please leave a message at 9878575 extension 23. Also at the RCSBB site will be helium balloons for sale along with face painting by band students and $5 haircuts from 1:30-4:30 courtesy of Kim Nelson of the Hair Gallery. A variety of games and contests will be held at the booth free of charge throughout the day including 3legged races at 1, sack races at 2, spoon and egg races at 3, wheelbarrow races at 4, best dressed contest at 5, and a water balloon toss at 6. Come one, come all!

Gates open 4:00 p.m. (rain date July 5) Great Meadow, at The Plains between Middleburg and Warrenton, I-66 Exit #31 A Flying Circus air show, Bluemont Concerts and the biggest fireworks in the Washington region including 12” shells, larger than any allowed at the Washington MaH display. Through partnerships with Giant Foods, Northern Virginia Electric Cooperative, Pepsi, Farm Credit WINC-FM, Times Community Newspapers and TriSept Great Meadow will be able to provide all the excitement at a reduced price for area families this year.

Tickets: Admission is $20 per car in advance (higher at the gate). Advance tickets on sale now at the Great Meadow website www.GreatMeadow.org. Proceeds from this event benefit The Great Meadow Foundation, a 501 (c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation of open space for community access.
