end saw the first Pickin’ Party at Hackley’s General Store here in Amissville. It was an absolutely perfect evening. There were nine musicians who turned up to sing and play a combination of bluegrass, country and gospel music.
The musicians were a mix of local talent and some from as far away as Page County. The audience was large and appreciative. There were around 60 people who turned out for the free entertainment. And it was a diverse group including the very young and the very old and everyone in between. There were a lot of songs where the audience was encouraged to sing along and some of us sang along even when we didn’t have an invitation! Besides the music, one of the featured attractions at the pickin’ parties is the ice cream at Hackleys.
The portions are generous and the ice cream is delicious. I saw one young man with the most colorful cup of ice cream I’ve ever seen in my life. If
