Great Meadow Not To
Host State Horse Center
Great Meadow has declined to be considered as the site for Virginia’s proposed statewide horse center.
A spokesman said that such a major multi-purpose horse facility is “entirely incompatible with the essential open space and charitable purposes” of Great Meadow.
The Virginia General Assembly is currently considering and expected to approve funding for a study of the location, feasibility and state financial assistance to a horse industry facility.
Great Meadow, created in 1982 near The Plains, has been designed and built to provide a 500 acre permanent course for non-profit open field events such as the 60th annual running of the Virginia Gold Cup steeplechase races this May.
