Though the course may be new for the Casanova races this year, the races will remain much the same as they have in the past. Entries are strong for the traditional first meet of a total nine meets on the Virginia point-to-point circuit.
The nine-race program begins at 12:30 p.m. with the First Colony owner-rider hurdle at lV^-miles.
Feature race of the day will be the Casanova Cup owner-rider timber race, sixth on the card. Eight horses had been entered in the 2'/2-mile race when entries closed Monday night.
Among the entries are Tonnere, owned by Peter Jay of Baltimore, Md., Paul E. Cramer’s Cookin’ N’ Lookin’, winner of the 1984 owner-rider race at the 1984 Old Dominion meet and Tasos, owned by The Plains resident Charlie Fleischmann, winner of the 1984 First Colony championship.
The day’s other races are a threemile open timber with six entries, a six-furlong flat race, a 21/z-mile ladies timber race, a 1‘/2-mile open hurdle race, a 2l/i-mile foxhunters timber race and a 1‘/4-mile flat race.
In the parking area during the races the Harden and Weaver Tailgate Handicap will have its ninth renewal. This colorful event featuring a wide variety of tailgate displays helps raise money for the Children’s Hospital in Washington, D.C. The entry showing the most expertise in tailgating will be declared the winner.
On Sunday, Feb. 24, Casanova will hold its hunter pair races at Mount Sterling. Beside the races for adult optimum and fast time teams there wall also be junior races for teams under 18 on January 1, 1985, and hill topper races without jumps for hunt followers.
