game, Richard Tribino scored 11 points, Thomas Williams had 10, Walter Frye scored nine and Devin Moore scored eight points.
“Our defense has allowed an average of only 28 points per game all year, but in the last five games we reduced that to a 17 point, average,” Coach Waters said.
The Rappahannock junior varsity team needed one more win going into the final week of the regular season to be assured of a spot in the district championship game. “We have already defeated all four of the remaining teams one time,” said Coach Waters.
While the junior varsity team has been having a consistently good year, Rappahannock’s varsity team has had ups and downs. “We’ve had a roller coaster year, and that’s evident in our 5-5 and 7-7 records,” said varsity Coach Don Dawson. “We could be really good if we played with the same high level of intensity every game.”
The varsity team won a close game with George Mason Friday night, 4342. Tommy Jenkins, who scored 15 points, hit the winning shot with 10 seconds left in the game. Robb Brown also scored 15 points during the game.
Even though Rappahannock won the game, Coach Dawson was not satisfied with the team’s level of play. “They didn’t play well because they weren’t up for the game, but we still won,” Coach Dawson said.
The varsity team’s last five games reflects their off and on year. They lost to Strasburg by a score of 69-47 on January 29. Mike Atkins was the lead scorer for the game with 10 points. Tommy Jenkins and Godfrey Freeman were tied for second spot with eight points each. “Strasburg played extremely well,” said Coach Dawson. “Two of our leading scorers, Robb Brown and Tommy Jenkins, didn’t play very much that game because of injuries.”
