I have come across occasional references to “thinkers” who seek to justify even incest and rape. But so far, these “thinkers,” unlike abortionists, haven’t really surfaced, and remain more or less hidden horrors for all of us, and incest and rape remain good pegs on which to hang the advocacy of abortion. But, of course, to distinguish between children conceived of incest and rape and those conceived in more human circumstances is a false distinction—a distinction originating in emotion and sentimentality—for the children themselves are still innocent children and we have no more justification for snuffing out their lives than we have for snuffing out the lives of other children.
And even in merely rationalistic terms the attempt to set up the incidents of incest and rape as an argument to justify abortion is very unsubstantial. For it seems that the circumstances of incest and rape are not very conducive to conception. Figures show that the number of pregnancies resulting from these horrors are statistically nil.
The case against abortion fs the case for all innocent human life. It is also a case for our own humanity.
