CMH Offers Prenatal Classes A series of four prenatal education classes for expectant parents will begin March 4 and run through March 25 at Culpeper Memorial Hospital.
Part of the CMH family-centered matemal/child program, the classes teach information on anatomy and physiology of pregnancy, labor and delivery, hygiene and nutritional needs during pregnancy, postpartum and newborn care. Expectant parents receive tours of the CMH obstetric unit including the birthing room and labor and delivery areas. Taught by Wilma Myers, RN, head nurse of the obstetric unit and by Terri Artale, RN, the classes are designed for expectant parents who want to learn about the process of childbirth and related topics. Differing from Lamaze classes where couples learn to participate in labor and delivery, these classes give an overview of the childbirth process, pregnancy, labor and delivery and infant care. The classes will meet in the hospital conference room on four consecutive Monday evenings, March 4, 11,18 and 25 from 7:30 to 9 p.m. The cost of the series is $15. Book Discussion At Library “Growing Up in the South,” a five part book discussion series opens at the Library Monday, March 11 at 7:30 p.m. with Dr. Suzanne Jones of the University of Richmond as Keynote speaker. The program is sponsored by the National Endowment for the Humanities and is free to the public. Registration will begin on February 11 when brochures will be mailed. Eudora Welty’s memoir One Writer’s Beginnings is recommended reading before the first lecture. This and the other four books may be borrowed from the Library now, and paperbacks of the others will be for sale at the Library beginning next week.
Babe Ruth Tryouts Babe Ruth baseball tryouts will be held on March 2 and 9 at Rappahannock High School beginning at 10 a.m. for 13 to 15 year olds. The event is sponsored by the Rappahannock Athletic Association.
Gospel Singing Fred Fox and the Middleburg Harmonizers and Lucy Rhodes and the Gospel Pearls will render their programs on Sunday, February 24 at 4 p.m. at the Promise Land Baptist Church. This is to benefit the King and Queen rally. All singers and friends are invited to attend. Reverend John Pendleton is the pastor. Kenneth White of WCUL radio station in Culpeper will be the MC. The event is sponsored by Vivian Gatewood and Forrest Freeman.
