to Luray where they visited the famous underground caverns. That evening they returned to Rickett’s Hotel for another night in Flint Hill and, after a long sleep, returned the next day toFoxcroft.
But the girls tell the story much better themselves. What follows are passages from the 1916 edition of the Tally-ho!.Foxcroft’s yearbook, which describe events on the first ever Foxcroft ride in 1915. (The order of stops on the first trip was different from what tradition would later iron out.)
One rider wrote: “On Friday, April 14, amid loud cheers and extensive fare-wells, we left for Luray. Many were the forebodings of being brought home on stretchers at the prospect of a one hundred and ninety mile trip....As our party of seventeen rode merrily through the little Virginia villages, people rushed out from all sides, and we heard many hot arguments as to whether or not we were boys.”
Someone with the initials E.T. wrote that entry. She continued “The first night we stopped at Front Royal, where, after ordering everything on and off the bill of fare, we betook ourselves to the movies. The plot was most exciting, and, as usual, all the girls fell in love with the leading man.”
