Zoning Ordinance
At its February 13 meeting the Council also discussed its need for a revised town zoning ordinance.
Asked to speak on this matter, Wayne Cilimberg, Executive Director of the Planning District Nine Commission (PD9) offered his thoughts. He confirmed that there are problems with the town’s existing zoning ordinance. “We found some loopholes,” said Cilimberg, touching on a subject of concern to the Council, which is the legal indefensibility of the present town zoning ordinance.
Cilimberg urged that a zoning ordinance address the needs of the town, and he stressed the importance of the town’s input into that ordinance.
“We have made a commitment to assist you (the Council),” said Cilimberg, adding that PD9 will work with the Council on the zoning ordinance until it goes to public hearing.
Cilimberg noted that the Town of Washington had been using Rappahannock’s comprehensive plan. Then he suggested that the Town may need a comprehensive plan of its own to address the more specific issue of where
