‘Pot’ bust nets 160 tons
PORTSMOUTH — The Coast Guard says the 160 tons of marijuana it confiscated off the Virginia coast this month was the largest drug seizure it has ever made.
A Coast Guard boarding party from the cutter Taney found the marijuana on a 175-foot barge that was being towed by the tug Sea Maid I about 300 miles off the coast.
Stan Christman, a spokesman at the Coast Guard’s 5th District Headquarters here, said Friday the drug was valued at $132 million.
