Chris Bishopp, of Warrenton, prodded many offensive opportunities, their attempts to score were constantly deterred as St. Anne’s finally captured a 2-1 victory.
Wakefield’s junior varsity soccer team played Grymes School this week. Grymes was the first to score early in the game followed by Wakefield goals in the second quarter by Matthew O’Herron, of Warrenton, and Jerry Latell, of Huntly, making the score 2-1 in favor of Wakefield. After halftime, Grymes came back scoring twice during the third quarter.
Emeterio Gomez, of Huntly, scored during the final quarter to tie the match at 3-3. In overtime, Wakefield won the game on a goal by Latell. The 4-3 final score represented the junior varsity’s first win of the season.
The Wakefield field hockey team, the Hooters, traveled to Middleburg this week to play Notre Dame Academy. The Hooters used a new lineup that proved to be quite effective with the final score a 1-1 tie. This was the team’s first tie of the season.
In the first 10 minutes, Wakefield junior Annie Dunning, of Boyce, scored a goal off a fast break down the field. Wakefield kept the ball above the 60 yard line for the majority of the half but only the one goal was scored.
Once again in the second half, Wakefield dominated the play with the offense leading a vigorous attack on the Notre Dame defense. Near the end of the final half, Notre Dame forwards got a fast break and scored on an excellent shot into the comer of the goal.
