In addition, Lynn said school officials discovered mud has been poured into the gas tank of the school’s rider lawnmower.

Also, during Homecoming Week, Wakefield students, working late on the school’s newspaper, chased intruders from the school grounds. The intruders, in their haste, dropped a kerosene can which Lynn said supported a rumor that someone plans to set fire to the school.

Lynn, however, added that the intruders could have been planning to siphon gasoline from the school’s fleet of buses, or from any one of the vehicles parked in front of the school.

Lynn said he “tends to take these rumors seriously” since his father was murdered in the family driveway on Halloween night 1967 in what may have begun as a prank.

Other recent events at the school have done little to ease the headmaster’s fear.

At around midnight after an Oct. 12 family visit to Winchester, Lynn said he pulled into the school parking lot to inspect the grounds. He said he spotted a “blue car
