The running season that began last spring with Rappahannock’s Fodderstack Classic (and its sister race, the Boston Marathon) will end next weekend with the Castleton Volunteer Fire Department’s third annual Turkey Ridge Run on Oct. 26.
“This incredibly scenic 7.1-mile course is a runner’s dream,” said Philip Strange, race organizer and president of the CVFD. “The run starts and finishes downhill.”
When pressed, Strange did admit that the course sports “a challenging bump or two in between.”
Serious runners can vie for Thanksgiving turkeys presented to the male and female winners of the open category or the special awards given to the top three finishers in each of the six age categories or for the special awards given to the top three finishers in six age categories for both sexes.
Age categories have been divided into 14 and under, 15-19, 2029, 30-39, 40-49 and 50 and over.
Not-so-serious joggers and walkers can savor the backdrop of autumn leaves that turns Castleton into a technicolor extravaganza every year just in time for the race.
