This weekend

If only the weather cooperates....

Mother Nature appears to be about the only variable of this weekend, one which will certainly be talked about for years to come.

It is the weekend of the 29th annual Rappahannock House Tour and Dried Flower Sale, an event put on professionally each year by the Churchwomen of Bromfield Parish. If the publicity photos do any justice to the three houses open on the tour, the exhibits should truly be something to behold.

That schedule in itself would make for a fine weekend. But add to that the peak of the fall colors in the Blue Ridge Mountains, which traditionally brings tens of thousands to the Skyline Drive, with a special little project planned in Sperryville and Rappahannock will be the place to be for anyone who has ever complained about a lack of social life in these parts.

The Sperryville Business Council took advantage of the guaranteed tourist traffic headed to the Skyline Drive, got permission from the churchwomen to combine the two projects on the same weekend and came up with the Apple Harvest Celebration.

The community's two dozen or so businesses have special events planned: Crafts, live music, freebies, cook-outs, x>d samples, apples in every way, shape or form. Local artists, crafts people, authors.

The place will be converted into a virtual weekend carnival.

It may be the only time all year when parking in downtown Sperryville becomes a municipal headache. , The house tour, a celebration in Sperryville. It will „ make this weekend seem like Christmas, when we plan for s weeks in advance only to'She Christmas Day pass like a / flash.

Let’s grab hold of that flash this weekend and savor it for months to come, even if the weather cannot be guaranteed.
