During the Notre Dame game, the Hooters made a noted improvement in stickwork and team play and they anxiously await their game against St. Anne’s Bellfield this week.
The Wakefield volleyball team played a match this week against Word of Life School where they lost 3-0. The team as a whole has improved considerably in this their first year of play, and they continue to improve with each match. Even though the team has had only one win this season, they have provided strong competition to the teams that they have played and they will continue working on the fundamentals of the game and improving their statistics and strategies.
Coach Cindy Baker commented that as the coach of this young team, she is very proud of the progress that they have made. She added, “One important characteristic this team possesses is spirit and motivation. The team is eager to learn and their drive is strong.”
The volleyball team is anticipating its upcoming match this week against Randolph Macon Academy.
Poster contest winners
Wakefield’s first annual book fair is this week in the school’s gymnasium. A contest was held for students to design posters advertising the fair. The first prize winners, each of whom received a book, were: Katie Lynn, of Washington; James Stephens, of Front Royal; Erin McCormick, of Winchester; Clark Dickerson, of Culpeper; Gregory Williams, of Flint Hill; Carrie Naramore and Chrissy Ohlinger, of Ami8sville; and Cyrus Grady, of Haymarket.
The public is invited to attend the book fair that ends today at 4 p.m. For more information, call the school at 635-8111.
